I remember when he was born the first words out of my mouth were, “He looks like an alien!”  He was not a cute newborn.  But he was a blessing.  I’ll never forget the endless questions from other people about where he got the red hair.  Our typical answer is, “The milkman.”

I can’t believe it’s been 13 years.  Time flies when you are having fun, I suppose.  These years I know are so vital to his development and I’m looking forward to them despite the fact we drive each other crazy.  Maybe it’s because we are little alike…

I can’t wait to see how God uses him to make a difference in this world.  I know he has some strong relational strengths that God is going to use in a powerful way.  My wife and I have always maintained that he is not all ours.  That he belongs to God first and foremost.  While many days we wouldn’t mind God taking him, we know the reality of the situation is that he is a blessing to us and we really only have 5 more years of him in our home.  Wow!

Whether he lives next door or across the world after that, we know that God has a unique kingdom assignment for him and look forward to seeing him grow into a man.

Happy Birthday, Ethan.
